Flam Valley, Norway II Little Gem oil on canvas mounted on board |
Landscapes are my favorite genre. Norway is my favorite European country. If you haven't been there, you surely must go. The walls of the fjords are very steep and beautiful. Water flows from melting snow creating thundering powerful falls. The smart Norwegians channel the falls into huge tubes which are part of their power plants (hidden in the mountains) used to generate electricity.
Peace is the essence of this painting. Peace and beauty.

wow---indeed that is a beautiful place--you captured the crisp clean colorful beauty !
ReplyDeleteThank you Celeste. The Norwegian painters of the 19th century are awesome painters and NO ONE has written a book on them, at least a big beautiful colorful one in English.
DeleteThis is a big painting in a small disguise. The colors are awesome! Someday I will visit all Scandinavian countries. My husband has been to Sweden, his ancestral land, several times for work and to meet his long-lost cousins. My daughter is a half-Viking!
ReplyDeleteThe Swedes and Norwegians haven't always liked one another. Did you know Sweden hasn't been in a war for over 300 years? I have a painting of Sweden on dailypaintworks.com that I LOVE!. If it doesn't sell, and I hope it does, it will find a place in my home.
ReplyDeleteCarol this is a lovely painting. It sure is a beautiful country. I have never been there, but my cousins who live in Germany, go quite often. How big are your little gems?
ReplyDeleteMy "Little Gems" are either 6x6 or 6x8; soon I will add a couple of other sizes. This particular painting is 6x8. Thank you for your kind words.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Carol!
ReplyDeleteThanks for staying in touch and "liking" my work!
