Painting and Website Do-Overs

Painting and Website Do-Overs

I just spent more than a week rebuilding my website with FASO
a company I always loved but left.
Many artists don't need as much tech help as me so going it alone, or nearly so, works well for them.

Now that heavy work week is behind me and I am happy.
Please check it out at

Here are a four paintings with which I was not happy.
Let me know what you think about the do-overs.

First Painting of Rural Life in France
Played too much with color
12x12
Second Painting of Rural Life in France
More accurate color representation as field wasn't ready for harvest
Cut off 3 inches;
Now a 9x12
First Painting of In the Garden
Direct sun coming through trees with no sky in view
caused light to blow out
Reworked Painting of "In the Garden"
Invented a sky and minimized tree with white blossoms
First Painting of "Renaissance Flowers"
Bottom right didn't please me
Reworked Painting of "Renaissance Flowers"
Now bottom right more clearly shows container edge
First painting of Natchez Poppies
Paint strokes seemed choppy
Reworked painting of Natchez Poppies

There is always so much to learn with painting, technology, marketing
that sometimes I get really weary.

How do you keep up with all the change and learning?

NATCHEZ AZALEAS

NATCHEZ AZALEAS

Natchez Azaleas
6x8 unframed oil on gessobord

No matter where I go in the world I will find flowers.
I search them out and take hundreds of photographs
or
set up a still life in my studio
In winter, flower shops and cut flowers are available
Summer flowers are endless

Spring is probably my favorite time of year for flowers
Summer heat sometimes can be very hard on them
especially in NM

Last weekend I planted eight hanging baskets
I cannot wait for them to totally fill out and spill over

Flower Shop I

"FLOWER SHOP I"

oil on canvas covered board, 5x7, frame has a mahogany finish.

I love painting series, and I love painting flowers.  In the past my flowers were very often close up individual ones.  I still have a few of those available on my website at www.carolhopper.com.

For several months I have been painting smaller, more affordable works of art and transitioning to more fields of flowers or in this case, flower markets.  While in Norway recently, I fell in love with the ubiquitous flower stalls and shops.
This painting is framed and ready to hang.

SOUTHERN HOME

SOUTHERN HOME, unframed, 9x12, oil on museum quality panel.  $175

This is my third and last southern garden painting for the series.    I struggled with this painting because my photo had a entire bank of azalea bushes that blocked toward the home.  That required my "replanting" of the flowers.  I hope the painting works now!

Block in with only transparent darks

Carving out flowers…that won't work later

Developing house and trees…trying a fence

More that just isn't working
Removing foreground before painting is finished
