This week I am going to share some of my Encaustic mixed media paintings I did a while ago.  I love the smell of the beeswax,  the wide variety of materials used, and the freedom to create without thought of representation. "Melodies" includes Sumi Japanese painting ink, torn paper, and three ceramic one inch tiles.  No frame is needed and "Melodies" is ready to hang.

  1. Carol this is so peaceful and calming. I love it.

I never knew what encaustic was except that it used heat, so I just had a look on youtube and watched a couple of videos, some amazing effect can be achieved. I might have found a new passion!

How do you protect the surface?

  2. The wax hardens and needs no protection. The mixture of wax includes a hardening element so it does not melt though I wouldn't leave my paintings in a hot car all day.

  3. Carol this is so beautiful. Graphic, simple, serene, zen. I have been wanting to do encaustic or years. I just do not have the space to attempt it right now. But oh I love learning about new techniques. I have been wanting to visit the encaustic art institute as well. Can't wait to see more of these :)

    1. Maybe we can go together to the Encaustic Institute. I haven't been there yet.
