WINTER SUNSET, pastel painting

Winter Sunset
pastel, 16x24

"Winter Sunset", 16x24, pastel, framed under glass with triple mats.    As a child, I fantasized a Currier and Ives Christmas.  I studied Christmas cards, love the churches lit for services, sleighs, horses, snow and especially the book/poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snow Evening" by Robert Frost.  This painting represents me as a child.

Blustery Day

   BLUSTERY DAY

9X12 oil on canvas covered museum
panel

I painted this blustery winter day two years ago but wanted to rework a few areas.  The original painting had too strong a horizontal line that pulled the viewer off the painting on both sides.  I also played with the sky adding a new color to me, Caribbean Blue by Old Holland.  Dreama Tolle Perry introduced me to that lovely dark transparent warm blue.

Norwegian Painter, Sophus Jacobsen

This summer I had the most wonderful opportunity to be in Norway and to see a few original pieces of art by Sophus Jacobsen.  His winter scenes brought me to tears with their beauty.  Norway in winter is pretty dark as you can imagine and I found that Jacobsen captured that limited light perfectly.  The city of Oslo is on the same latitude as Anchorage, Alaska.

I will be returning to Norway over the Christmas holidays for skiing with my grandson.  This will also give me an opportunity to see more of Jacobsen's art.  Can anyone advise me on a great place to ski in Norway and activities a teenager might enjoy?
