Day Seventeen: Hollyhocks and Blue Gate SOLD

Hollyhocks and Blue Gate
Little Gem
6x8 canvas on board mounted
Prowling in my little neighborhood subdivision...riding my bike instead of walking....snapping photographs of people's plants, gates, walls, and doors.  I have found plenty of painting material on my street alone.  As usual there is inventing....this gate was a different color, the stucco was a very light PINK and the hollyhocks were roses.
Well, at least today I didn't move any trees!

I had a struggle with this painting initially because I originally did paint the stucco light pink.  It took me a while to figure out the painting needed to be warmer!

  1. Day 17 already - you are a good girl!
I always find pleasure in the blue gates and doors of New Mexico. This is a real treat to look at.

  2. This is beautiful Carol! You have captured the light so well. I love all the paintings you have been doing for the challenge! I also enjoy photographing things close to home to use for painting reference.

  3. Thank you Wendy. Isn't it interesting how painting subjects are very near to us?

  4. So lovely Carol! This is my dream home right here. Turquoise gate, pretty flowers, adobe walls. Such a delight!

    1. Flowers at a gate do welcome us home, don't they?

  5. Everything is right--the hollyhocks (one of my favorite flowers), the blue door, the wall with the right-temperature "pink". Perfect! You passed the test. Lol.

    1. This time the test WAS hard. I worked on this painting for several days before I thought it was ok. Thank you.

  6. Very nice. Shows you don't have to have a lot of detail, just a few strong simple shapes to make a scene work.
