Day Eighteen: "Courtyard Gate with Trumpet Vine" SOLD

Courtyard Gate with Trumpet Vine
Little Gem
8x6 oil on canvas mounted
I love reading everyone else's blogs about the progress they are making in the thirty day challenge.  Do you agree it has improved our painting skills?

Trumpet vines with pods are everywhere most of the summer.  The plant is pretty, it is messy, and it spreads.  Eventually the trunk can be the size of a small tree.  We love the plant in spite of its minuses.

  1. Hi Carol, I think you are right about the challenge improving painting skills. It is in my case and also I am using water soluble oils, which at first really threw me for a loop, but I found walnut oil and now I love painting with them! I haven't done oils in years because of allergies, but now I am having a ball! Watercolors and acrylic and even egg tempera have been my mainstays and each one is used so differently than oils. This challenge has been a great discipline, and I am enjoying looking at everyone's work. I really do like yours.Your Countyard Gate with Trumpet Vine is indeed a little gem!

    1. You taught me something. I once bought the water soluble oils, but before using them, tried someone else's with complete frustration. I took mine back to the store. Now I see I could have used walnut oil.

You certainly are gifted to be able to paint with so many mediums.

  2. rats - I also have a trumpet vine coming over the wall by a gate - sigh - and I see you are already on day 18 so I will wait and be a good girl.

    1. There are SO many things involved in the challenge...FB, DPW, Leslie's post, and our own blog. I don't know what day it is. Yesterday I jokingly told my husband it could have been dark for 36 hours straight and I would never have known. I didn't look outside; didn't go outside; and if the phone rang, I let "answering" pick it up. So I am off a day; maybe permanently? I know this much: I am one day older and a better painter due to the daily painting!

  3. I love trumplet vines (their flowers, that is). I didn't know about their minuses. A great composition. I can feel the light of New Mexico!

    1. Hi to one of my most faithful bloggers! With our MN connection, I know we will meet someday. No matter what, you find the good in the paintings. In NM, due to our heat and drought and now SATURATED ground, growing anything has pluses and minuses.
